Waiawa Solar

Waiawa Solar is a 36 MW solar photovoltaic project paired with 144 MWh of battery storage located on land leased long term from Kamehameha Schools. Waiawa was Oahu’s second utility-scale solar and battery storage power plant, which came online in January 2023. The project is designed to provide clean energy to the grid even after the sun sets, further advancing the state’s goal of 100% renewable energy by 2045.

The project includes an education, workforce development and community benefit package worth more than $200,000 in collaboration with Kamehameha Schools and Blue Planet Foundation.

Significantly contributes to Hawaii’s goal of 100% renewable energy by 2045.

Enough clean electricity to power more than 2,400 homes each year for up to 40 years.

Low pricing for renewable, non-fossil fuel energy source - a third the cost of fossil fuels at the time the project commenced operations.

Reducing the volatility of customer electricity bills.

Capitalizes on the limited availability of applicable State tax credits prior to their expiration and passes on the full benefit of these tax credits to customers/community.
